How our pro-active approach is upgrading this human cremation system back to state-of-the-art
There’s a long-standing and unspoken rule throughout industry that says even though you may install the very latest, best available technology (BAT) sooner or later as the technology, materials, processes and legislation evolve it will become outdated. Very often the reaction at this stage is to just ‘put up with it’ until it is time to change. No matter how long that may be. Recently however, at Matthews Environmental solutions Ltd, we’ve totally overturned that ‘so be it’ mentality and instead of allowing what is an important and busy human cremation system to slowly slide into obsolescence, we are now pro-actively upgrading it to ensure that it remains an excellent example of state-of-the-art.
The human cremation system in question was designed, built and installed by us for Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) back in 2013. At that time it was considered best available technology, but as with everything, progress does eventually overtake it. As part of our agreement with CWAC we provided an all-inclusive maintenance and support package, which gave us a continuous hands-on insight into the developing situation. Our philosophy is ‘why allow this to continue? Why should improvements only apply to future systems? It is only common sense to take any opportunity, where feasible, to apply improvements to existing systems too.’
That is exactly what we are now doing!
Briefly the package of upgrade work we are providing includes:
1. Improved operation and maintainability of the human cremation plant. After close liaison with CWAC and their technical consultant we have designed and are about to install a newly upgraded control system that will greatly improve the remote monitoring and management facility. This in turn will not only enhance the opportunities for better preventative action, it also reduces the need for what could be expensive reactive response and repair. All of which will allow CWAC to offer an improved service to the community.
2. Improved economic and environmental performance. Advancements mean that we have been able to design in greater fuel efficiencies; while at the same time we are also incorporating improved emission standards. This action, which is in advance of legislation pressure, provides substantial economic and environmental benefits. Factors that are of considerable importance in these times of local authority austerity.
3. Improved future-proof confidence. The pro-active upgrades we are now incorporating mean that the CWAC human cremation system will be perfectly prepared for the future. Instead of waiting until replacement is inevitable we are pre-empting obsolescence by introducing technical developments now. Making it easier to further develop and improve the system in the future – without the need for huge financial investment by the authority.
