Companies, authorities and organisations that make extensive use of incineration plant, including human and animal cremators, can now capitalise on their investment by utilising the heat produced via the combustion process to generate what can be substantial levels of electrical power (energy generation).
This self-generated electricity can then be employed as a ‘free’ power source for the operating site, while any surplus electricity can be sold to an off-site electricity grid provider.

Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) Hot water to power
ORC technology is more suited to smaller incinerator plants, including animal and human cremators. It utilises hot water generated from the heat exchanger incorporated in the waste heat recovery phase of the process that is passed to a heat engine and which in turn powers a generator set to produce electrical output.
The process is approximately 6 to 10% efficient (process temperature dependant) in converting the thermal energy in the water to electrical power.
If we install a new waste heat recovery plant then the process temperatures in the heat exchanger will be configured to reflect the higher efficiency.
This technology when retrofitted to an existing plant can offer a self-payback of typically between 3 to 7 years subject to the energy value of the waste.
Maintenance costs are extremely low (circa 2% of ORC cost per year).
Steam Turbine (Reaction Type) Superheated steam to power
This technology is especially suited to larger incinerator or animal cremation plants and utilises high pressure superheated steam generated from a steam boiler/super heater in combination with an economiser that is passed to a steam turbine and which in turn powers a generator set to produce electrical output.
The process is approximately 20 to 22% efficient in converting the thermal energy in the steam to electrical power.
This technology can significantly reduce the turnkey installation payback period for a WID/IED compliant W2E facility to typically between 2 to 5 years subject to the energy value of the waste.
Maintenance costs are low (circa 1.5% of turbine cost per year)
