Our development programme gives our incineration technology even wider appeal
It’s probably true to say that in every business organisation’s history there is at least one seismic moment that dramatically changes the concept, the philosophy and hopefully the future and fortunes of everyone involved. This past week has, to say the least, been one of those keynote points in the Matthews Environmental Solutions story. It is a week that has witnessed what at first sight might appear to be a somewhat unimportant transition, but in reality what has occurred is a significant step in our drive to make our incineration technology, and more, even more readily available – everywhere in the world.
The background to this story is that over the past few days we have welcomed a delegation from our Matthews corporate office in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, along with our division’s financial controller from our Apopka office in Florida.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarise ourselves with our transition to SAP. This is a new business management and customer relations software system that is now taking the place of our previous system. In itself this represents a significant investment by the Group to ensure that our incineration technology business is fully prepared for future challenges.
In reality, however, it is yet another stepping-stone as part of our commitment to the development of our products, our people and our procedures. This key moment in the development of our procedures will allow us to refine the way we operate, which in turn will enable our incineration technology business to become more diverse, more efficient, more effective and more profitable.
Even more importantly, SAP, which is a crucial part of a bigger global project, will help us to enhance and extend the service we are able to offer all our customers – no matter where on earth they may be located.
This development process will effectively integrate us further into the Group dynamics and will enable us to more easily tap into the strengths of the Matthews International Corporation. It also allows us to analyse differences and similarities within the Group. The effect will be to dramatically shrink the world for us by encouraging diversity and thus opening up new opportunities for future growth, including in those areas of the world where currently we do not have a presence.
In addition, this diversity will ultimately enable us to use our incineration technology skills, knowledge and expertise beyond our core business activities.
On our website we say: ‘Respect for the past … design for the future’. This is not just another glib tag line; it is a genuine philosophy that represents our desire and commitment to progress.
