As the world’s leading incinerator manufacturers we’re very proud of our staff who have supported these good causes
We may be one of the world’s most famous incinerator manufacturers, but sometimes life isn’t all about work and results. It’s about people. Our people, their families, the people they associate with, live with, laugh with, love, help and support in so many different ways. Recently at MES we have had two brilliant examples of how people have gone out of their way, have gone the extra mile (literally) and have put in an incredible effort to help raise much-needed funds in order to support their own good causes.
Fundraising success story – one
Back in September Katrina Slade, our Quality Assurance Coordinator, took part in a gruelling 100km bike ride to support The Christie Charitable Fund. The Christie is the largest single-site cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 44,000 patients a year and is the first UK centre to be accredited as a ‘Comprehensive Cancer Centre’.
When Katrina arrive at the start line it was early, but bright if slightly damp. Nevertheless, with a large field of serious cyclists and fun riders representing all ages and abilities, the atmosphere was fantastic. Within the first 35km though the Heavens opened and Katrina, along with all the other riders, was quickly soaked to the skin.
Even so, Katrina completed the course and in the process raised £130. The event itself raised a staggering amount to help support The Christie.
In spite of the conditions, Katrina reports that she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She has only been cycling for around 18-months and this was by far her longest ride. Despite that, she says she will be back to do it all again next year.
Well done Katrina.
Fundraising success story – two
Sam Fregapane is our Commercial Director at MES. He also happens to be Chairman of Tytherington Juniors FC, a local grassroots football club that has been established since 1987 in the village that lies on the outskirts of Macclesfield, in Cheshire.
Fundraising is the lifeblood of voluntary organisations such as Tytherington Juniors FC, but when they were discussing this year’s fundraising programme, Sam called on his commercial experience within MES, one of the world’s top incinerator manufacturers.
Instead of relying on the usual scratch cards and Xmas raffle, the committee decided that this year they would ‘go for it’.
They booked a reception suite at the nearby Mottram Hall Hotel and arranged an impressive Charity Race Night – with profits going not only to their own junior football club, but also to be shared with the local East Cheshire Hospice.
After hectoring many local businesses and organisations they amassed an impressive list of attractive raffle prizes. These included a weekend’s stay at Mottram Hall, a signed Man Utd top, 4 match tickets and a stadium tour from Man City, a luxury Spa, beauty treatments and so much more.
Thanks to efforts of Sam and his fundraising committee over 150 people bought tickets and attended this hugely enjoyable event.
Punters really enjoyed the eight horse races as well as the cash prizes that were on offer, and thanks to the appeal of the amazing raffle they raised over £3,000 to be divided between the football club and East Cheshire hospice.
At MES we are justly proud of the efforts put in by our employees in doing so much and raising so much money for the good causes they support.
As you can see though … it’s not just the fundraising that is important … it’s also the fun that goes along with it.
