WID/IED Waste to Energy Incinerator for SME’s with CHP Option

WID/IED Incineration for SME’s

With the cost of waste disposal rising (Landfill tax increased by 1% to £84.40 in April 2016) many potential clients are seriously considering disposing of their own waste with a Waste to Energy Option.

waste to energyHistorically for SME’s within Europe this has been difficult to justify in terms of the capital investment required to comply with the stringent emission requirements of Waste Incineration Directive (WID) 2000/76/EU now superseded by the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) 2010/75/EU which governs all waste except small unprocessed animal carcass incinerators.

A WID/IED compliant incinerator plant also has significant operating costs that must be overcome AND often SME’s may not have enough of their own waste in order to present a viable proposition.

A possibility is to take other Third Party Waste for a fee which can make the project not only viable but increasingly profitable with scale.

For example the major operating costs (Staff, Spares, Maintenance, Emission Testing & Transport) will only vary with market rates as the incinerator processing capacity is scaled up and the costs of those that do such as Power, Fuel and Other Utilities are proportionately reduced as a result.

We can offer compliant plant for this type of application processing up to 2.5 tonnes per hour of waste operating up to 8000 hours/year.

The key factors:

  1. Current Disposal Costs
  2. Ability to Take in Third Party Waste
  3. Gate Fee of Third Party Waste

Typical Scenario: A client has their own general waste with a disposal cost of  £150/tonne and they take in third party clinical waste at a disposal (gate) fee of £335 to £700/tonne.

Low Cost Waste to Energy Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Option

Once the incinerator becomes a certain size low capital cost power generation options (Low Pressure Steam to Power) will power the parasitic load of the plant and above that will leave surplus power for export to the grid which can be further capitalised on by applying for a Renewables Obligation Certificate (ROC).

Here at Matthews Environmental Solutions we can use our expertise to help you with a FREE NO OBLIGATION project viability assessment.
